WELCOME TO RIVER MEDWAY CANOES

how it started…

It all started back in 2016 by Mark Birkbeck after having spent a lifetime on the water. Prior to opening up River Medway Canoes, he was working as a Professional Kayaking Instructor, Raft Guide and represented Great Britain in multiple World Championships. Mark has accomplished great achievements along the way such as competing and winning the 1999 Junior World Championship and completing a first decent of the upper Tamba Kosi river in Nepal.

Fast forward to the current day, River Medway Canoes, is a thriving family business run by Mark and his wife Sharon, which offers not only Canoe hire but Kayak , Stand Up Paddle Board and Self Drive Motor Boat hire on the Beautiful River Medway in Kent.

what we offer…

River Medway Canoes have an extensive fleet of Canadian Canoes that are smooth, stable, fun to paddle and large enough to pack everything you need for a great day on the water.

Along with our canoes, we offer a large stock of single person and two person kayaks for hire that are light and maneuverable. Our kayaks are wide and stable with fitted back rests making them one of our comfiest craft to paddle. Our single kayaks have a dry hatch in the back for you to carry your belongings for the day and our doubles have enough room in the rear storage area.

Take to the River Medway on one of our Stand Up Paddle Boards. Our boards are stable and guaranteed fun for any age. All Stand Up Paddle Board hire participants can expect to receive a full safety brief and demo before taking to the river ensuring you are 100% happy before you start your day.

The latest additions to our collection is our two pre-book Self Drive Motor Boats to hire, Lady Celia and Three little Ladies. Our motor boats have a maximum capacity of six participants including the driver and children. Hire is available on an hourly basis and a full day hire basis. More information available on the Self Drive Motor Boat book now information page.

River Medway Canoes hire is for up to 6 hours and we love for you to spend the day exploring over 16 miles of non-tidal river. Whether you would like to go for a little pootle taking in the Kent Countryside, watch the wildlife or to see how far you can go in one day, the river has it all to offer.

The river is ideal for complete beginners, fitness fanatics and nature enthusiasts, you may even spot a Kingfisher or the occasional Otter, it really is a magical place.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Mark and Sharon
